How to Deploy an Inbound and Outbound AI Call Assistant
For inbound calls, assign a phone number to the assistant and test that it answers. For outbound, copy the assistant ID, build a GoHighLevel workflow triggered on a form submission or new contact, and add a Make AI Call action with that ID. For volume, add a drip rate and calling-hours window to stay compliant.
Inbound and outbound calling are set up differently: inbound is a number assignment and a test call; outbound is a workflow built around a “Make AI Call” action, with a trigger, a drip rate, and a calling-hours window for compliance.
Setting up inbound calling
- Assign a phone number to the AI assistant — see how to purchase and assign a phone number to your AI caller if you haven’t yet.
- Confirm it’s working by calling the assigned number directly and checking the assistant picks up.
Creating an outbound calling workflow
- Copy the assistant ID, found at the top of the assistant’s interface.
- Create a new workflow in the automation section and name it.
- Set up a trigger condition. Common options: Facebook lead form submitted, Website form submitted, or Contact created (with or without filters for specific forms or tags).
- Add the AI call action. Select Make AI Call, paste the assistant ID into the field, and save.
Implementing drip campaigns
If you expect a high volume of contacts, add a drip rate so calls go out in a controlled pace rather than all at once:
- Set a daily call limit — for example, 100 calls per day.
- Configure wait times between calls — for example, one call every two minutes.
- Set compliant calling windows — for example, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — using the contact’s own time zone so every call lands at an appropriate local time.
Cautionary notes
- Always verify the assigned number is operational and correctly linked before testing.
- Double-check every trigger and filter to avoid missed calls or the wrong contacts getting called.
- Be mindful of calling-hours regulations — see AI calling compliance and consent for agencies for what written consent and local rules like TCPA and ACMA require.
