How to Change Your Assistant's Voice and Language

Updated September 17, 2026 · Build Your Assistant · by the Assistantz.ai team

Short answer

Open your assistant, click its name to see available voices, and select a new one — some show 'preview unavailable' but can still be selected. Use the three-dot Voice Menu to adjust response speed, interruption sensitivity, talk speed, emotional tone and language, choosing from 25+ supported languages, then save.

Video walkthrough: How to Change Your Assistant's Voice and Language

Assistants speak in 25+ languages with natural, low-latency voices — this covers where to change the voice, the language, and the speech-quality settings that affect how it actually sounds on a call.

Steps

  1. Open the Assistants section.
  2. Select the assistant whose voice you want to change.
  3. Change the voice. Click the assistant’s name at the top of the screen to see the list of available voices. If a voice shows “preview unavailable,” you can’t listen to it first, but you can still select it.
  4. Add or clone a voice if you need a new one or want to clone the current one.
  5. Open the Voice Menu from the three-dot menu next to the assistant’s name.
  6. Adjust settings: response speed, sensitivity to interruption, talk speed, emotional tone and language.
  7. Enable recommended settings: turn on speech-friendly formatting and back channeling for the best call experience.
  8. Save changes.

Cautionary notes

Be cautious selecting a “preview unavailable” voice since you can’t hear it in advance. Make sure every setting change matches the intended use of the assistant — a mismatch here shows up as miscommunication on real calls.

Tips

Get familiar with the available voices and their characteristics so future changes are faster. Keep a mental checklist of the two recommended settings (speech-friendly formatting, back channeling) so they stay enabled after any voice change.

Next step

If a call still doesn’t sound right after adjusting these settings, revisit how to create your chat and voice assistant for the noise-handling and voicemail settings.
