Fix: Chat AI Not Responding
If a chat assistant stays silent, the active tag automation is the first place to look: confirm the workflow's trigger and channel filter match the message that came in, the tag was actually applied to the contact, and the channel itself (SMS number, Facebook page, Instagram or WhatsApp) is connected in GoHighLevel.
A chat assistant that doesn’t reply is almost always a missing link in the active tag automation, not the assistant itself being broken. Work through the chain in order.
What to check
- Is the channel connected? SMS needs a working number (see how to buy or import a phone number for AI SMS); Facebook Messenger and Instagram DM need Facebook and Instagram connected in GoHighLevel; WhatsApp needs its own connection. If the underlying channel isn’t connected, no message reaches the assistant at all.
- Did the workflow trigger? Check the workflow’s execution history for the contact’s message. If it didn’t trigger, recheck the trigger condition (Customer Replied) and the channel filter — a filter set to the wrong channel silently drops every message from the actual channel being used.
- Was the active tag applied? Open the contact and confirm the active tag is present. If it’s missing, the “check for existing tag” condition in the workflow may be misconfigured, or the trigger simply didn’t fire.
- Is the assistant itself configured correctly? Confirm the correct assistant is linked to that active tag, and that its model, tools and prompt are all set up as in how to create your chat and voice assistant.
- Check server/conversation logs. The conversation inbox and workflow logs show whether the message reached the assistant and whether it attempted a response.
