How to Set Up a Custom Voicemail Message

When a call reaches voicemail instead of a person, your assistant can either leave a custom message or hang up silently — this is where you choose which.

Steps

1. Access the Assistants menu.
2. Select the assistant to configure.
3. Open Call Settings on the right-hand side of the assistant’s page.
4. Enable Voicemail Detection.
5. Write the voicemail message exactly as you want it delivered — for example, “Please contact me when possible at 123-456-7890.” Keep it relevant to your business.
6. Save changes.
7. Select a language processor if needed. If the voicemail should be delivered in a language other than the assistant’s default — French, Dutch, Portuguese, German, Spanish, and others — choose the matching language processor in the settings menu.

Common questions

What happens if I leave the message field blank? The assistant hangs up silently the moment it detects voicemail, instead of leaving a message — useful if a voicemail message isn’t the right outcome for that campaign.

Can the message use dynamic content? Yes — the voicemail message can use variables and custom variables, the same as the rest of the call, so it can reference details specific to that contact or campaign.

Tips

Draft the voicemail message in advance and keep a template for common scenarios so setup is faster next time. Test the feature after setup by calling in and letting it go to voicemail, to confirm the message is delivered as expected. Review voicemail messages periodically to keep them current.
